Phoenix
canariensis commonly known as the date palm is a relatively
new introduction becoming very popular as a small tree
for a small garden, but giving that exotic effect. Our
changing climate giving us warmer relatively frost free
winters is allowing the growing of less hardy exotic
plants.
However
in our unpredictable scottish climate nothing is guaranteed
so if we do get a cold snap it will test the hardiness
of our date palm. I would imagine this small exotic
tree could grow to 20 or more feet weather permitting.
I have one planted 4 years ago and now at five feet
tall and very healthy.
